Deze keer richt ik de spots op de Amerikaanse zangeres Kavita Shah! Kavita heeft Indiase roots, maar is opgegroeid in New York. Ze is geinteresseerd in jazz, maar ook in Braziliaanse-, West-Afrikaanse- en Indiase muziektradities. In haar muziek heeft ze zich o.a.laten beinvloeden door de morna’s van de Kaap Verdische koninging van de morna Cesaria Evora en dat hoor je ook in haar muziek.Onlangs bracht ze haar nieuwst album “Cape Verdean Blues” uit waar o.a. Bau aan heeft meegewerkt, voormalig gitarist uit de begeleidingsband van Cesaria Evora!
This time, I am turning the spotlights on American singer Kavita Shah! Kavita has Indian roots, but grew up in New York. She is interested in jazz, but also in Brazilian-, West African- and Indian music traditions. In her music, she has been influenced by the mornas of the Cape Verdean queen of the morna Cesaria Evora, among others, and you can hear that in her music.She recently released her latest album “Cape Verdean Blues” on which Bau, former guitarist from Cesaria Evora’s backing band, collaborated!
