Onder haar artiestennaam Rita Lee kreeg ze bekendheid als frontdame van de band Os Mutantes, naast haar muziek vroeg ze aandacht voor dierenrechten en was ze veganiste.Ze groeide tweetalig op met de Portugese- en Engelse taal. Met Os Mutantes bracht ze vijf albums uit. Solo elf albums. Ze werkte natuurlijk samen met haar echtgenoot en tevens muzikant Roberto de Carvalho, maar ook met b.v. Gilberto Gil
